Lisa, I cannot tell you just how invaluable your info is to me and my family of four, as we transition to eating real food! Please keep posting! I have learned so much from you. Thank you for all of your time and effort and for SHARING!
I am very excited to see you have a book coming out! I'd like to buy from Amazon but also want to make sure you get your commission... If I order from a link on your site, does that mean it is an affiliate and that you will get a little bit of the pie? Or is your local bookstore the only one you are affiliated with? (I'm also going to buy a few more items from your "favorites" page and would like to help support you with these items, too.)
P.S. Thanks so much for your wonderful ideas, I have really been inspired to continue improving our family's way of eating since I've found your site 3 months ago! Cook on! :-)
I would keep an eye on the larger Tramontina set. Sometimes the price bounces around. I bought it for a lot less than the $279 at which it's currently listed. The smaller set is still a good deal, though.
For SJ: Walmart carries a line of pans that is similar in construction and close in performance under the name, Tramontina. The smaller set is $130. They are excellent. I believe I heard about them from Cook's Illustrated. I just googled them and the blog Serious Eats has a great comparison. I've had mine for several years now and they look brand new. They are great. There is no reason to pay more. I even went back and got the second set because I loved the smaller set so much. And still paid less than the All Clad.
Hi I want to replace my non-stick pots and pans but at this point cannot afford to buy the recommended All Clad set for $400. In trying to research alternative options I have been struggling in understanding the different materials etc. was wondering if you can recommend a slightly cheaper alternative that's still good. Looking to spend up to $200 to $250.
Hi SJ. You have a reply from a reader just below that you might want to take a look at. All Clad is what Lisa uses and there is not another brand she's recommended. It is an investment and some people just buy one piece at a time. As an alternative, I, so this opinion is not coming from Lisa or Jason :), have found Costco's Kirkland stainless set to be a high performer at under $200.00. ~Amy
Hi there, have you found any really great ways to store your pantry items such as flour, oats, etc? I'm looking for durable, great sealing containers for these for our home, but there are so many options. I wondered if you've found success with any particular containers. Thanks!
I keep following a Pinterest link to this page for the whipped cream dispenser. And it not here! Which one is it? I like to follow amazon links to help support blog. Help! Ha!
Love your blog it has really inspired me to change the way my family and I eat and the recommended books were AWESOME! Quick question; do you cook with lard? Or just stick to the old butter and olive oil?
Do you have any suggestions about an alternative to plastic drinking cups at home? My husband doesn't always want to feel "fancy" drinking out of a glass cup, but I don't love plastic cups and find that plastic cups become clouded after several rounds in the dishwasher. I'd love a more casual feeling glass that we can use when we're eating outside or eating with kids? Any recommendations?
Hi there, Deb. We use small and tall jelly jars in my family. They are certainly casual and very hardy. You can find them within this post as well as the durable glasses that Lisa uses regularly. :) ~Amy
Hello Bobbi. Lisa does most of her shopping at Earth Fare and that is where she buys most of her spices as well. It can be difficult to find spices that are very finely ground (like powdered onion and garlic) without anti-caking agents. There are many companies that offer dry spices without ant-caking agents that can be ordered online. ~Amy
Do you have any reusable freezer safe bags you might recommend? When I make the waffles, I like to make extra and freeze them, so we can just pull them out and put in the toaster oven on school mornings. I've just been putting them in a ziploc, but would like a better alternative. Thanks!
I remember seeing at one time Lisa was in the market for a new waffle maker - did she ever find one? Would it be possible to get the details of the one she went with if so? Thanks so much!
My lower end Ninja is giving out on me. It has trouble with green smoothies. Blendtec or vitamix? I use my blender usually 2-3 times a day to make smoothies for breakfast or yogurt smoothies for the kids snacks.
I'm trying to slowly replace my very expensive calphalon pots and pans that have died after only 10 years. I'm going to go stainless steal this time. However, I'd like one non-stick griddle for pancakes, grilled cheese... and one frying pan for eggs. Do you feel that there are any "safe" non-stick options.
Hi Fanki. There is not any particular non-stick that we recommend. I've stopped using it with the exception of eggs which I make on a non-stick griddle. I make sure that I do not over-heat the griddle and always use a silicone spatula to avoid scratching the surface. I've recently made eggs successfully on well-seasoned cast iron, too. ~Amy
Are you still using the Naturally Fresh crystal deodorant? Just wanted to see how it was working for you before I bought a stick....I've tried dozens of natural deodorants only to go back to Dove. :(
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the information you have provided! I am definitely trying to stay away from made in China stuffs, especially anything that would come in contact with our food and drink hehe...
I purchased the silicone muffin cups from the amazon link under Products off the Kids however when I put them in the ziplock divided container, the food that I put in fell out. I think it's because the standard size doesn't reach all the way to the lid. Do you use the large size? If so can you change the link on this page please?
I use the Ziploc divided containers and the silicone baking cups. Having a hard time making them work. Is there a trick to getting the food not to spill all over (in the largest section)? I find the items in my silicone cup spill out into the other food and vice versa. As you know, kids are not fans of food mixing! :)
Hi Jen - There are two sizes of the silicone muffin liners. The "jumbo" is taller than the "standard" and works better for keeping contents in place inside the Ziploc divided containers. - Jason
Are almonds, almond flour and extra dark chocolate considered whole? I found an almond butter cup recipe that sounds amazing, but I'm new to this and want to make sure they are ok!!
1/4 Cup Smooth Natural Almond Butter
3-4Tbs. Almond Meal
1 tsp. Coconut Oil
6-8 squares Extra Dark Chocolate
Sorry if someone else already asked this, but why do you have a wheat grinder? Won't the food processor do the same thing? Does the wheat grinder work better?
What about shortening for baking? I had an old tub of Jungle shortening that I bought at Whole Foods a few years ago and only used once. Any suggestions on what brand (or substitutions) would be good?
I love this website & find it to be very user friendly. My goal was to really get going w/ this now that it's a new year, but I still have a lot of Amy's organic canned ABC soup & Planet Earth tuna in my pantry. Are these things ok??
Hi Doreen. I am not sure about those ingredient labels. You would just need to check them out and see that they fall within the rules of the pledge. ~Amy
Hey Lisa, I'm curious if there's a website that you know of to order free-range chicken/grass fed beef that would ship to our home? I myself and vegetarian, but my husband is a meat-lover and in our area we struggle to find healthy, real-food meat options for him (the closest trader joe's/whole foods is over an hour away and the health food stores are REALLY expensive!). Any ideas would be so appreciated! Love your blog.
What can you do with a food processor that my blender won't do? I just won one at a Christmas party and am debating keeping it because I really don't know what to do with it...???

100 Days LOVE your website and recipes. Wanted to give you guys a recommendation. I bought and use an Insant Pot for a lot of my cooking. It is a muti use pressure cooker. It can be a slow cooker, pressure cooker, rice cooker. It can also sauté. It's great for one pot cooking I can brown meat in it then add ingredients and use it as a slow cooker but if I got a late start and dinner is not ready on time I can finish it off with the pressure cooker. I make the crockpot chicken in it at least once a week and then throw all the bones back in and make stock in an hour with the pressure cooker option. Only down side is the psi does not get high enough to do canning. This has truly become my favorite kitchen appliance and thought maybe you would want to check it out. I know the newer model even has settings to make home made yogurt or pasturize milk. Gotta love things that make real food easy!
