I love smoothies for so many reasons. A cup full of green goodness (I always put greens into mine) + so many other fruits or veggies makes me feel good about what I’m putting into my body – but I also feel good after drinking one, too! Smoothies to me are the ultimate fast food. You throw everything into a high speed blender, and within seconds, you have you real fast food that’s ready to be enjoyed.
But sometimes I find myself in a smoothie rut. I’ve been known to make a few not so good smoothies (for the record, I’ve only ever not drank one of them). On the flip side, when I make one that turns out well, I get on a kick and make that one over again and again. And being that we know that variety is the spice of life, I know that this can’t be the best option for me. So I was super intrigued when my friend introduced me to Green Blender.
Green Blender is a service similar to Blue Apron and Hello Fresh, but which only deals with smoothies. Each week, they send you ingredients for 5 completely different smoothies (2 servings per smoothie, so 10 smoothies in all) with unique ingredients and recipes incorporating foods that I would’ve never thought to use, such as sweet potato, yellow squash, lychees, sage, lavender and more. All ingredients are separated, and most are chopped (aside from the occasional banana, etc. which would not hold up well aside from being shipped whole). Green Blender also sends you a full recipe sheet, description of the benefits of each smoothie based on their ingredients, and sometimes some fun throw-ins, like fun-colored straws to further enhance your smoothie experience.
I’ve tried Green Blender for a few weeks, and I’m hooked. What I personally love about it is:
- It takes the guesswork out of what type of smoothie to make
- It helps me to try new recipes and ingredients
- It saves me a shopping trip since all ingredients (almost all are organic and local*) are shipped to me
- I don’t have to peel or deal with most of the fruits and veggies
When I receive my box, I pull everything out and separate the foods into giant ziplock bags (which I wash and reuse each week) for each smoothie, and place them in the freezer. I’ll pull out one of the bags about an hour before I’m ready for it, throw it in the blender, and enjoy the minimal fruits of my labor. My kids have been enjoying this as much as I do; my 5-year-old helps me separate ingredients after the shipment is received, and they each get excited about which one they want to try first.
Since I love the service so much, I asked Green Blender if they would offer you a discount to try it out for yourself … and they agreed! Try Green Blender and save $10 on your first box with code REALFOOD. Let me know if you try it and love it:).
*items are local to the Green Blender headquarters, which are in New York
**I do not freeze liquids when putting ingredients into the freezer; I add them when ready to enjoy.
