My Upcoming Real Food Cookbook (out in August)!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in this life, it’s that writing a cookbook teaches you some serious patience! What started as a super exciting (and surreal) opportunity in July of 2012, turned into a super serious undertaking (i.e. actually turning in a finished manuscript by March of 2013), and has now turned into an ever impending release date of August 2014!

Some of you may recall that my book was originally going to be on sale starting this month, BUT publisher plans change, and like I said – patience! So if you have been anxiously awaiting the release date (like me), then let me go ahead and thank you for your patience as well…and in the meantime, how about we tide ourselves over with some of the juicy details?!

First of all, we have a cover! And it’s even listed on Amazon (and available for preorder!) as if I am a real author or something!

My Upcoming Real Food Cookbook (out in August)! from 100 Days of #RealFood

In all seriousness though, I can truthfully tell you that I worked harder on this book than I have on anything else in my entire life (even those final exams in college!). So when you buy this book, you are going to get some of my blood, sweat, and tears with it because I didn’t want to just write any real food cookbook, I (i.e. the Type A in me) wanted it to be absolutely perfect for you. I wanted this book to contain all the resources, recipes, and motivation that you could possibly need to completely transform your lifestyle – into a healthy, happy, real food one that is!

So let me share a little sneak peak of what you’ll get when August arrives. :)

My Upcoming 100 Days of Real Food Cookbook

Part 1: Guidebook

  • 5 organized chapters with everything you could want to know about:
    • How to define real food.
    • How to read ingredient labels.
    • How to shop for real food (from eggs to grains to oils to produce) including budget-friendly tips.
    • How to realistically adapt the recommendations to a busy lifestyle.
    • How to get your family on board.
  • 4 new dinner meal plans using the recipes from the book, one for each season!
  • Fun extras like a real food substitution chart, my typical weekly grocery list, entertaining tips, and a school lunch packing chart.

Part 2: Cookbook

  • 100 (mostly new – not previously on the blog) recipes!
  • 100 full color photos of each and every recipe!
  • Chapters divided as follows: Breakfast, Lunch (including new school lunch ideas!), Salads and Sides, Snacks and Appetizers, Simple Dinners, Special Treats, and Homemade Staples.
  • I think you’ll especially love the “Homemade Staples” section, which includes a DIY dried onion soup mix, BBQ sauce, cheese sauce, and cream of mushroom soup substitute, among other things.

So anyway, that’s what has been going on behind the scenes over here, and I promise to continue to keep you in the loop as things progress! Thank you so much for your support during this exciting process. :)

  1. I love cookbooks, but I have never been so this excited to buy one!!! I love the fact that you’re including photo’s for every recipe. I can’t wait!

  2. Super excited about the book! Congratulations!

Due to food allergies, we have to be dairy-free and egg-free and peanut-free in our house. Is there a gauge of how many recipes include cheese as a main ingredient. Many recipes we can improvise, but we haven’t found a good cheese alternative (that is healthy or that we like!) Just trying to see if this will work for our family :)

    Way to go!

    1. Assistant to 100 Days (Amy)

Hi Kerry. You should have a chance to peruse the table of contents before purchasing. Many of Lisa’s recipes do include eggs, various types of dairy, and nuts. ~Amy

  3. How about saying “Oh, WOW! – It’s my book cover, buys!” instead of OM* ? I just don’t like it when people take the Name of my Lord in vain, it just bothers me.

    Just a thought….

    1. I totally agree. It is overused to show excitement; there are other possibilities that are not offensive.

Your cookbook will no doubt be superb! Thank you for compiling a wealth of information.

    2. I totally agree! That exclamation is WAY overused, not that even one use would be acceptable. It hurts to hear our Lord’s Name taken in vain!

  4. Just pre-ordered it. Can’t wait!!! I love everything of yours I’ve made from the blog, so the cookbook will be just as amazing, I’m sure! Congratulations!

  5. This is awesome news, congrats Lisa! Will this also be available as an e-book, or downloadable on a Kindle or similar? I am replacing my paper cookbooks with digital versions in order to reduce physical clutter in my home, and would love to be able to add 100 Days to my ‘virtual’ collection! :)

  6. Wow!! This is so exciting! Congratulations on all your hard work – I am definitely going to preorder one for myself and maybe a few for my friends!

  7. Congratulations Lisa! I worked for two years on our junior league cookbook and know everything that goes into it! It’s a huge undertaking! You and your blog are helping me daily to change my life style (as well as my husband and daughter). We are not completely there but making huge strides. I am anxiously awaiting August!!! Thanks again and congratulations!!!!

  8. So so exciting! I recently had a house guest
And prepared many of your recipes! She was
So impressed with how she felt after only 3 days
Of eating healthy that she has returned home
To transform her habits! Your book will make
A great gift for me to give her and help keep her
On this new path. We change one life at a time
But it is so worthwhile. Keep up the great work!

  9. How exciting!! Congrats Lisa. I can’t wait – it’s just what I need to get my kitchen into real-food action!!!

  10. I am so excited for you! And for the new cookbook that will be on my shelf once it’s out! I found your site less than a year ago and you have helped me change how everything is done in our kitchen! Thank you!

  11. Will the recipes include nutritional values? This would be SO helpful for those of us wanting to eat “real food” but who are also wanting to keep track of fat, calories, carbs, sodium, etc (for weight management, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc).

    1. Assistant to 100 Days (Amy)

Hi Tara. It is unlikely. Counting calories, fat grams, carbs, etc. is somewhat against the 100 Days philosophy. While we know there are certain medical conditions that require keeping a close eye on sugar and such, we want otherwise healthy individuals focusing on giving up the processed stuff and eating real/whole foods, not so much on numbers. There are many online tools available to calculate all those recipe details, if necessary. ~Amy

  12. I am SO happy for all the good things that are coming your way…you all have helped so many people make a positive change in their lives. Kudos!

  13. I will be pre-ordering your book for myself, and another copy for a friend. After lots of nudges from various sources, your blog was the one that finally tipped the scale for me, and truly inspired me to start eating clean. I have already tried several of your recipes, and have been excited to search for and find new local food sources in my area. Thank you!

  14. I am so excited! Your website really helped me pull together everything I had learned about clean eating. It was like the final piece of the puzzle. Congrats! Thank you for everything that you do!

  15. I just preordered 2!! so excited for this to come out! Your site is my go to when trying to put together a meal plan for the week (as I am doing right now). Thank you!!!

  16. I’m so happy. I have pre ordered the book. I can’t wait. I have been slooooooooowly getting my family to eat whole food. My husband tries but is a sugar person. That makes it tough. I’m still trying, so every little thing helps.

  17. Just pre-ordered my copy! I am so excited to see the new recipes. I just wish there was a spiral bound option, they are so easy to use while cooking :)

  18. I ‘m exited. I’ve been reading your blog for a year now. Did a week or two of your summer meal plan but fell off the wagon. This year I’m jumping on with both feet and dragging the family with me. This book will be a BIG help. THANK you.

    1. Assistant to 100 Days (Amy)

Hi Brinley. Go back into the post and click on the “listed on Amazon” in the third paragraph down. :) ~Amy

  19. I’m so excited and can’t wait to get my hands on your cookbook. Your blog has changed the way my husband and I eat. I’m so thrilled for you too. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

  20. Lisa, I’m so happy for you and excited for the book to come out. I think I’ve just figured out half of next year’s Christmas list, thanks to you. I will patiently wait until August. Congratulations!

  21. So excited for a hard copy of the recipes, and new ones! I’ve eagerly waited until January for the cookbook (ready to go in my Amazon shopping cart!), and bummed to hear about the the extension. But, everything good is worth waiting for! Thank you for all of your hard work you’ve put into this blog and the upcoming cookbook! Remember, your hard work never goes unappreciated :)

  22. Lisa, thank you for all you do! Your tips & the website have been an invaluable resource to me! I am eargerly waiting on the cookbook! YAY!!

  23. Hi, I am very excited about your new book. Can you befriend me on facebook using Carmen Ortiz franek? If not will you keep me posted on your upcoming book? I need to change my eating habits and my husband needs to do so as well. I am a teacher and an artist in Florida. Best wishes, I just illustrated a children’s book with two friends and know how exciting this must feel.

    1. Assistant to 100 Days (Amy)

Hi Carmen. I promise that if you have subscribed to the blog and/or liked us on Facebook, you will know exactly when the book will be released! You can do both of those things at the top of any blog page. Look for the subscribe tab as well as the social media Facebook icon and click. And, congrats on your book!:) ~Amy

  24. My birthday is in September, and I’ve already hinted to my husband this would make a good gift! Thanks for your hard work!

  25. I am so excited about this cookbook. Bummed that I have to wait until August now……But I’m sure it’ll be worth it :)

  26. I look forward to buying your cookbook!! Sharing your blog, knowledge and positive attitude have made a huge impact on me:) I found your blog not long ago and read EVERY entry and most comments. You have given me many “aha moments”! Thank you to you, your family and your staff. You are truly changing lives for the better:)

  27. Hi Lisa.
I was happy to hear you are making a cook book. I don’t comment on your FB page but I do want you to know that I really appreciate all of your help, information and common sense advice.

In a world where food company’s are deceptive and consumers can become almost paranoid, giving in to extremism, I am happy to have your information to guide me. I use LOTS of your recipes and hope that your cookbook will be available to your fans in Canada.

    Have a great new year.

    Maureen

  28. Congrats! I’m so excited (and patiently waiting) to buy your book! I think my favorite part is the pictures for every recipe. I like seeing what my cooked meal is suppose to look like. C’mon August!!!

  29. Our family switched to real foods last April and your website has been the single best resource for helping us to successfully make the change. Probably at least half of our staple recipes now come from your site, so I can’t wait to buy your cookbook. Thanks for helping so many of us on this journey!

  30. Congratulations! I can’t wait to buy one for myself and a few to give to people I have been trying to explain real food to. You have helped my family so much in changing our diet, I want that for all my family and friends and strangers too!

  31. VERY excited! We have been trying to eat clean for the past 6 months and I refer to your blog at least 4 times a week! It will be nice to have a hard copy of recipes!

  32. I am so happy this book will be available on Kindle! Living in Mexico the shipping costs are usually more than the book, I will totally get this book as soon as it’s available! Thank you so much for all you and your family are doing to encourage healthy eating!

  33. It’s already on my Amazon wish list! I can’t wait, although with all the printed copies of your recipes I feel like I already own your cookbook :)

  34. Your book looks wonderful. Congratulations AND thank you for writing it! I collect and read cookbooks like novels and I’m looking forward to reading yours and incorporating even more of your ideas into my life with my 6 year old son and 4 year old daughter. My kids are so very picky and it’s very challenging feeding them because at their daycare and when they’re with my ex-husband/their father, their diet is not entirely heathy and full of processed foods. I need to be creative and make a big effort to get them to eat whole, real foods at home. I believe this book will make it a little easier for me!

    1. You can preorder from Amazon now if you want. I won’t be selling it directly from my website because it goes through my publisher to all the retailers (wherever books are sold). Thanks for asking though!

  35. Thank you for putting real food back into our diets. Big thanks for living here and representing the South where misconceptions are being made clear.

  36. I can not wait to purchase your cookbook!! I love all the recipes from your blog and can’t wait to try more!! Congratulations and thanks for all you do!!

  37. At 71+ I am not your usual demographic but I have loved your blog and look forward to sharing this book with the younger folk in my family. Your tips and recipes have been very helpful as I try to stay healthy and strong in my senior years.

  38. YAY!!!!! I’m excited to get a real copy of your book and I will be supporting you and purchasing through your website most definitely :) You have already helped me in so many ways with preparing food for my family and learning more in depth about food. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!!

  39. Your blog is my go-to reference for anything whole food related so it will be great to have a go-to book to go with it! Congratulations!

  40. Congratulations! I’m sure it will be a huge success. One thing I have to mention, as a girl with a sister… Your daughter on the right might be upset that she’s not being shown as much as your daughter on the left, she’s kind of hidden behind her hair. Cute pic though. :)

    1. That’s a funny observation (not having a sister myself)…but there are lots of pictures of both daughters on the inside so I think they’ll be pleased once it’s all said and done!

    1. Yes it will be available wherever books are sold! And the final copy is not done yet, but I hope to highlight the recipes that meet the needs of different food allergies.

  41. So fun to see it on Amazon! I love reading blogs but there’s no substitute for holding a brand new book in your hands. I cannot wait to get my copy!

  42. YAY! I am SO EXCITED for this cookbook! Because of my daughter’s severe food allergies we have been forced to eat healthier than ever. We were eating pretty healthy before, but we just keep fine tuning in every area. Your website has helped me so much! It’s good to know every single ingredient you are putting in your body. I am at the point now where if I don’t have it in my cabinet here at home and it’s not something I would use as an ingredient then I don’t want it in my food. Thank you for all you do!!!
