Ingredients & Substitutes

These are the ingredients and substitutions for healthy ground chicken burgers. Scroll down to the recipe card for the entire recipe.

Use ground chicken. Leaner ground chicken will naturally be more dry. Thus, 99% lean is more dry than 93% lean.

We like using whole wheat breadcrumbs instead of white breadcrumbs. If needed, use gluten-free breadcrumbs.

Grated Parmesan cheese adds moisture and a delicious cheesy flavor.

Finely chopped onion adds flavor.

Minced garlic adds a delicious garlicky flavor.

Seasonings include parsley, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper. Feel free to adjust the quantities to suit your taste.

Olive oil helps brown the meat. Use avocado oil if desired.

Serve with your choice of burger buns. We love whole wheat buns.

How to Make

Step 1

First, in a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped onion, minced garlic, parsley, dried oregano, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until evenly combined.

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty. Adjust the size and thickness of the patties according to your preference.

Step 3

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Then, place the chicken patties in the skillet and cook for about 5 to 6 minutes on each side, or until the patties are cooked through and reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

While the patties are cooking, toast the hamburger buns in a toaster or on a griddle for a few minutes until lightly golden.

Step 5

Once the patties are cooked, remove them from the skillet. Let them rest for a couple of minutes.

Step 6

Assemble the burgers by placing a chicken patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with lettuce, tomato, onion, or any other desired garnishes.
