Who doesn’t love a frozen fudge pop? I was a BIG fan of them when I was younger so I worried that a knock-off “real food” version wouldn’t taste as good as what I remembered…but, oh was I wrong! And in case we need any proof my 8-year-old actually told me I was “acting like a kid” while we were eating them together for the first time. Oops – I must have gotten a little messy and proclaimed how good it was one too many times. :)
If you are looking to “clean up” other areas of your home the laundry room is a great place to start. Just last year our family started working on that switch and went from conventional laundry detergent to what we thought was “clean” laundry detergent to what (we now know) is really “clean” laundry powder. And yes, they are a sponsor, but I’ve tried quite a few different detergents and Molly’s Suds is honestly my favorite. The reason they won me over is because the safety of the product is unquestionable, the natural smell (peppermint) is divine, and the cleanliness is spot on!
I made these and was thrilled with how easy & yummy they were! I used plain greek yogurt & whole milk for extra richness. They turned out so well I was inspired to make a coffee-flavored version. Used greek yogurt, approx 1 tsp instant espresso powder dissolved in a little warm water, heavy cream instead of milk, & stevia powder to taste instead of syrup. They’re fantastic & satisfy my love for coffee ice cream without the sugar.
Great fudge pops! I tried them yesterday and they taste great. I have a question though… How do you prevent the settling that occurs? I took them out of the mold and there were two different layers. One was dark chocolate and the other layer was lighter.
Can I use Greek yogurt instead of the plain yogurt?
Yes, Nicole. I don’t see why not.
I made these with soy milk instead of regular milk and yogurt. My kids devoured them! My in laws bought a thing of plain soy milk that no one would drink. I have a dd allergic to dairy, so the substitutes worked out perfect. Thanks!
Who makes (or where can I get) the popsicle mold? Thanks!!
Hello Eliza. Just click on the photo and you will be linked to the product. :) ~Amy
I am so excited to try these out! Thank you!!!! I went to the Molly’s suds website to see if I could get a sampe but I can’t spend $2.95 on a sample!!! I must be way to cheap ; ) Hope you have a wonderful vacation! xo
aw man, I have everything to make these EXCEPT freezer space! lol
Can you tell me what brand of unsweetened cocoa you use. I have been looking for a dark variety and have not had any luck.
Thank you! Looking forward to trying this recipe.
Hershey’s Special Dark.
Thank you for the reply Anna. I made the fudge pop with Hershey’s Special Dark and they came out delicious!!
OMG!!! I just made these and they are soooooo good!! I didn’t have enough maple syrup so I used what I had left and used honey for the remaining amount. I also used regular cocoa powder, not the dark. Super delicious!! I will use special dark cocoa powder next time! Thanks for the recipe:)
Where did you find those adorable two-sided cloth napkins? I must get my hands on some! :)
Great recipe- can’t wait to try it out!
There’s an ad on the right side bar for “Fun-kins”…those are the two sided napkins. :)
Hi Kate. Lisa provided this link to that question earlier: http://www.etsy.com/shop/EgadsandLittleFishes. ~Amy
This may be a silly question but is the unsweetened cocoa, cocoa powder?
Never mind. That was a silly question and I see the answer now :)
Lisa and team,
Thank you so much for this fun recipe! I am a foster mother of a little boy who struggles terribly with allergies. He unfortunately was a fetal alcohol/meth baby and was found eating out of the trash at 21 months. We started following your blog about two years ago, and from the bottom of my heart, thank you for the education you’ve provided our family. After switching up our little man’s diet, his allergies problems greatly improved, his physical developmental delays greatly decreased, and he has blossomed into a beautiful, healthy little boy who loves banana pancakes! Thank you so much for your hard work and all the education you’ve provided our family! You’re helping in much bigger ways than just diet! We appreciate you!
Sincerely,
Taylor
Hi Lisa! It was great to meet you last week. These look fantastic–I’ll have to make them for my little guys!

http://www.iadorewhatilove.com – Check out my blog!!
I’ve been craving chocolate popsicles, so this couldn’t have been better timing! I made them today, but they’re still freezing. I drank the extra liquid that wouldn’t fit in my moulds and found it a bit strong, especially for my very young kiddos. But, to be fair, I didn’t follow the recipe exactly. In the end, I dumped it all back in the bowl and added some more milk and then water. I think they’ll be perfect and I can’t wait to serve this [fairly] healthy treat!
We just finished eating the fudge pops! I changed the milk to almond milk and used greek yogurt instead. Delicious!
Have a wonderful trip! I am currently reading “French Kids Eat Everything” and am so inspired by their culture of food. Enjoy!
Hey Lisa,
If you happen to end up in Germany you are welcome!
Alexandra
Thanks for sharing. We made these TODAY after seeing the post. My toddlers don’t get many sweet treats, so thank you so much for providing ideas I can feel good about.
Tried these tonight modified for dairy free and they worked great. We used vanilla coconut milk and plain coconut yogurt.
What a perfect recipe to find! We are 3 months into our real food transition and my kids have been asking for chocolate popsicles. I can’t wait to surprise them with this recipe this weekend.
On a side note – have a wonderful time in France! That’s my top country that I hope to visit someday. I am sure you will enjoy some fabulous food!
These look really yummy! I can’t wait to try this recipe!
Would this work in a Zoku pop maker? I just wondered if it would freeze well in there or get stuck.
I don’t have one of those myself, but I don’t see why not?
They worked great in our Zoku.
Hi Lisa,
These look yum!
I wanted to thank you for taking to trouble to create a blog and share your life with the world. We are South Indian, living in the UK. Most of the traditional food we eat ( we are vegetarian, no egg either) has to be cooked at home, and cannot be store bought. After a long day at work, I usually resented the fact that I HAD to cook from scratch, every day.
You have inspired me to see the advantage in my style of cooking and eating. I have the same job, and the same time I did before, but I cook happily, and am so much more at peace now.
I always wish you and your family family well. I am sure your beautiful girls will inherit the legacy and cherish it!
Have a safe trip.
Lots of love,
Mythri
Wow, I am so glad to hear that our blog could have such an impact on you. Feedback like yours is exactly what keeps me going! :) Thank you for sharing.
Do you think honey would work instead of maple syrup? Would love to try this. Need some Popsicle molds though. :)
Yes, honey would work well!
Great recipe. We added some bananas to it and it was WONDERFUL!!!!
You are fast! :)
As I’m reading this I just happen to be siting here with my kids enjoying homemade fudgesicles! We just got the zoku maker because of a recommendation from a friend. It seems to be working well! The kids loved having popsicles with no waiting:). Now I want to try your recipe in there!
I am very excited to hear that you are going to Paris and will be exploring French food! I am a college student who loves following your blog and I am currently studying abroad in Tours (an hour and a half southwest of Paris). I am living with a host family who cooks for me so I do not have a say in any of the food that I eat. Nonetheless, I am lucky because my host dad has a huge garden and all of the vegetables we eat are from his garden, so that is good enough for me right now. However, I am served foods like croissants, macaroons, and other French delicacies that are very delicious, but also make me a little nervous. I am eager to hear how you experience French culture and if you have any tips on how to enjoy French food but still feel good about what I am eating!
oh thank you so much – the kiddos will love helping make these (and hopefully eating them)
and how exciting! a trip to paris with the family ;-)
Wow – Europe! Have a wonderful time. And I have to let you know I absolutely love your blog. What an inspiration!
Awww…thank you!
I wonder what these would be like with honey?
We’ve not tried but that should work just fine, Becky!
Oh my goodness!!! The BEST Caprese salad I ever had was in France in a small cafe. The husband made the cheese and they’d grown the tomatoes in their own garden. I’m drooling thinking about it! Enjoy your trip, and I hope you get out of the city and into the wonderful countryside!
And I think these fudge pops are going to make their way into my freezer sometime very soon…
I would LOVE it if you could come back with some great recipes for healthy french sauces!! Enjoy the patisseries!!!!
Bon Voyage!! Paris is fun to visit. :)
OMGosh! I can’t wait to try these, for the kids I mean. wink, wink! I am a choco-holic and I am always looking for healthier recipes. Thank you thank you thank you!!
PS – Have a great time in Paris!!
Ha ha ha!! You don’t have to hide it! And thanks :)
These look really good! I have an unrelated question, where did you get the little towels the girls are holding or did you make them? They’re adorable, probably too cute for my boys to use but I would like them for myself.
I got them on etsy…we love them! http://www.etsy.com/shop/EgadsandLittleFishes
Hello, I LOVE reading your blog and getting good recipe ideas! I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old. The 2 year old is, sadly, more picky about what he eats, and he is also (very sadly) allergic to dairy, egg, and peanut. The allergies + pickyness drives me absolutely nuts sometimes, but we are trying very hard to eat healthy foods and lots of whole foods. That being said – do you think that I could substitute rice milk or coconut milk in this recipe? How about coconut milk yogurt (or any other non-dairy yogurt substitute? I would probably have to use chocolate coconut milk yogurt, I have not found plain). Thank you for your help! :)
I think coconut milk (yogurt) would be a great substitute – try that first! :)
Thank you!
My oldest is lactose-intolerant, so I was thinking of trying this with vanilla almond yogurt and plain or vanilla almond milk.
I’m so excited about this! Thank you!
Will definitely be trying these- thanks!
And Paris- how amazing- enjoy, and can’t wait to see what you offer up from your trip. I have family moving to Japan next year and am determined to make it for a visit!
