My Path To Real Food (Video): Part 2

In this video, I share one of many inspirational stories about how the life of a mom and her son were transformed by their own real food journey. If you missed my first video, you can watch it here.

I want to hear from you! Please leave any comments or questions below.

I am so excited to begin this journey! My husband and I are blessed with 5 children (mainly adults now) and we pride ourselves in the care we take of our babies. However I am ashamed to admit that our diet is far from where it should be! Thank you for offering your wisdom and this “mini-pledge.” We are so excited to see how we all feel a month from today!

Firmly believing in the wholesomeness of a whole foods diet, I have longed to change our family's diet and have made small attempts here and there over the past few years. Some have stuck, but recently i have found that I have reverted to former unhealthy patterns. I think the obstacles I face include a fear of failure from a lack of discipline, the increase in the cost of buying organic whole foods on a limited budget, the complaints from family - 18 year old, 12 year old, and 9 year old, plus a husband who absolutely loves Coca-Cola and all of whom are very accustomed to the American diet- and, quite honestly, my own resistance to changing to a new diet of which I may not enjoy the flavor/texture. I do have the first 100 Days of Real Food cookbook, but have not invested in the other two. Any suggestions?

Tanya, we appreciate your honesty about falling behind. It can be a struggle, but every little bit that you do is a step in the right direction. Our 6-week mini-pledge is a perfect way to help, it's even good for the whole family since it's a week at a time of learning something new, instead of trying to change all at once. We also have tons of blog posts that can help. - Nicole

I do not want to buy 3 of your cookbooks so where should I start? My inclination would be the newest book.

Barb, all three books have great content and recipes. If you're completely new to Real Food, then I'd suggest either the first or the newest since the newest helps make the changes on a budget, but the first one gives great information overall. The 100 Days blog is also great to look through too.

      Hi Barb,

I started following the blog and changing my family's eating habits last spring and haven't looked back! I was also hesitant to buy more cookbooks because I already owned tons that I hardly use, so I checked out Lisa's first two cookbooks from the library! That gave me a chance to read about her family's journey and try a few recipes. Let me say, every recipe I've tried has been a winner and I soon wanted to own the books so I could make notes and have access to everything.... I now own all 3 and use/refer to at least one of them almost daily!

They all have great information, but her first book really explains the "why" of cutting out process foods and tips on how to make the switch. I started with that book and it was very helpful. Good luck!

I know the time has come to make changes for my family. My son's behaviour has become unbearable.

Back up a little further. ..my mother was diagnosed with colon cancer last year. She also has type 2 diabetes so i began to question how diet affects our health. So i made some changes in myself and have never felt better...i am no longer tired all the time... Still it takes a lot of courage to convince my husband and kids!

    It is time.

      Karen,
It's amazing what happens when we change the way we eat and what we consume. So sorry to hear about your mother, and hope that we can help you with getting the rest of your family on board! - Nicole

I also have a child who only eats certain items, mostly white things- pasta, bread, cereal. I will make wholesome meals but she refuses to eat them. How did the child in your story go from being such a picky eater to suddenly accepting healthy options? My daughter will not... it's very frustrating.

I love your videos and your teaching on whole foods. I cook every day but I still haven't managed to enjoy cooking. However, I dislike not knowing what is in my food more so I don't go to restaurants or buy pre packaged foods. However, so many people socialize around going out to eat. I don't trust restaurant foods. They are there to make a profit so the quality of their ingredients is affected by the cost. I am seen as the odd one that skips going out or just orders a bowl of soup or brings something from home. Are you seen as the odd one or do you loosen your whole food philosophy for social settings?

Sheila, it can definitely get a little tough when it comes to social settings. Here's a great resource for dining at restaurants that may help: https://www.100daysofrealfood.com/how-to-eat-whole-foods-at-restaurants/ - Nicole

Several years ago, my daughter was a roller coaster of emotions, often angry and lashed out frequently. She also had insomnia, fatigue and chronic abdominal issues. We saw doctors and counselors. Refusing to accept the psychological diagnosis that she was being labeled with, we sought out alternative treatment. That's when I found 100 Days of Real Food. I am forever grateful as it truly changed her life and ours as a family!! I own all three cookbooks and use them weekly. Thanks for all you do!

I am 45 years old. Three years ago my doctor told me I needed to lose 10 pounds and that my triglycerides and my cholesterol were getting too high and I may need to be put on medicine. I used to eat out a lot and dessert was my friend. I went to the bookstore to see if there were any cookbooks that could help me. I discovered 100 Days Of Real Food. The next year I went back for my annual physical and my doctor could not believe the results, I lost 15 pounds and all my bloodwork came back great. She gave me an A+ on my health! Thank you to Lisa for creating this program, it has truly changed my life.

You are so right on with cutting out processed foods. I started last Feburary on my own along with watching what I ate in General and lost 40 lbs. gaind a little back during this Holiday season but I know how to take it back off. But we as a society need to be educated on what we are putting in our bodies. Thanks for spreading the word.
