Whole Wheat Cinnamon Bread for Bread Machine

38 Reviews / 4.6 Average
If you have a bread machine, you'll definitely want to make this Whole-Wheat Cinnamon Raisin Bread right now! It's perfect for breakfast, but we also enjoy spreading on some cream cheese for a snack during lunch, or even as a dessert after dinner. It's well worth the investment for a machine just to make this recipe.

I recently bought a bread machine and have been experimenting with different recipes. I am still playing around to find the perfect whole-wheat sandwich loaf, but in the meantime, I hit the jackpot with this raisin cinnamon bread for bread machines.

Whole Wheat Raisin Cinnamon Bread for Bread Machines

The first time I made this bread the entire loaf (pictured) was gone in just under 24 hours. And no, we did not have any house guests…it was just my family of four chowing down like it was our jobs. At one point I had to cut the children off mainly because I wanted my loaf to last us longer than a day!

I finally made more though and have been using it to make sandwiches - with organic cream cheese in the middle - for my daughters’ snacks at school. They even love this bread enough for it to serve as a “dessert” after dinner.

What's the Best Bread Machine for Whole Wheat Bread?

If you don’t have a bread machine I think it’s worth the investment since it’s nearly impossible to find decent whole-wheat bread at a typical grocery store. I bought a Panasonic (this one is similar)machine that was recommended by several friends, but I’ve also heard from readers who found a machine they love from their local Goodwill store.

The only complaint I have about my machine is that I wish I didn’t have to wait an hour or two for it to beep before adding the raisins (since you don’t put them in with the rest of the ingredients). Other than that though I’ve been very happy with it! Here's a quick tip: make sure to select the whole wheat setting on your bread machine for the best results!

If you have a machine that you love please tell us about it in the comments below.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups whole-wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water (warmed (I heat it in glass measuring cup in microwave for 1 minute))
  • ½ cup coconut oil
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup raisins

Instructions

  • Follow your bread machine’s directions for making a whole-wheat raisin loaf.

I like to take my bread out 10 minutes before the standard end time for a lighter crust.

I know this is an old recipe so I'm not expecting a response. I was wondering if instant yeast would work in place of the active dry? And would butter be okay in place of the coconut oil? I'm allergic! Thank you

This bread turned out so delicious! Soft and chewy. Being vegan I did not use honey, instead using 1 tablespoon of syrup, 1 tablespoon of organic sugar, and equivalent 1 tablespoon of stevia. I made this on 2lb loaf size and was perfect!! Thank you for a great recipe! Seems a little better than recipe provided by my excellent HAMILTON BEACH Premium Dough and Bread Maker. Just made few loaves so far but works great!!

Just an update to my earlier post: I have been putting raisins in at the start with no discernable difference. Again, we love this recipe!!

Love this recipe - it is by far what we make the most in our bread machine. I have found that sometimes more liquid is needed - I check during the first kneading to make sure the dough looks ‘right’. I’ve also found that adding a tablespoon of vital gluten makes a softer, lighter loaf.

Has anyone tried modifying this to make rolls or pull apart buns? I’m thinking I might try that for an event I’m wanting to bring this too - a bit more portable/shareable in individual portions.

While we haven't tried it with this recipe. While it won't be "real food" approved due to not being 100% whole-wheat, we'd love to know how it turns out for you. - Nicole

Hi Lisa, i just came across your recipe & will try it tomorrow when i go to buy more yeast..my oster bread machine is over 20yrs old...i 'think' i used ti back the a time or 2, started using it again the past 2 yrs or so. the only bread i have made w/ww flr is ww bread. i made a raisin brd recipe the other day, & it was ok, but i wanted to try a different recipe & came upon yours. & after reading many comments, i chose yours...i like the idea of the ww flr, the honey, & the coconut oil. i may even go to the market tonight 'cause i'm out of yeast...what i wanted to tell you is regarding loaf size, my Oster does not give one a choice. it has 3 crust settings, 2 expressbake settings, 58min & 80min...& settings for basic, french ww, sweet, dough, & bake..maybe 1 or 2 more...i always follow the recipe so i guess the machine knows by the amt. of flour what to do. anyway, i will let you know how it comes out & thanks..now i'm going to look at your other bread machine recipes.

We made this and it was very delicious. I soaked the raisins in tea to plump them and then used the tea as the warm water. Just my little variation on it, but the bread would have turned out great following recipe as is. Thank you.

Did not pan out. I followed instructions from my bread machine booklet and used yeast that I tested on a different batch. This recipe produced a coarse loaf that did not rise.

I have bread machine yeast. Do I use the same amount as listed for the active dry yeast? If not, what would be the equivalent measurement for bread machine yeast?

Do you think I should set my bread machine to "sweet" or to "whole wheat" loaf? It doesn't offer good suggestions for a sweet + whole wheat loaf :(

We are on our third loaf! I'm trying time vital wheat gluten to keep it from collapsing. Does it matter if I set it to 1.5 or 2 lb loaf? Thank you!

This is the best whole wheat/raisin bread I have ever made. It is delicious! The raisins and honey add moisture and a touch of sweetness that make it perfect for morning toast. Really could be better or more moist!

Followed the recipe and the bread didn’t rise (or else it sunk during baking). Not sure.

Wow - this is now my all-time favorite bread machine recipe! It came out so soft and moist and not in the least bit heavy like some whole wheat breads can be. I'm guessing it's the coconut oil that makes it so yummy and moist. I will definitely be making this on a regular basis. I set my bread machine for a 1.5 lb loaf based on the amount of flour in the recipe, but it actually filled the pan to the 2 lb capacity. I had to let the loaf cool longer than most before cutting it, because the loaf was so soft and I was afraid it would squash if I cut it too soon, but it was definitely worth the wait. A new family favorite!!
