Beginner's Guide to Essential Oils

Many people swear by essential oils as home remedies and claim they help keep their kids out of the doctor's office. Though these claims are not backed by the FDA, it certainly sounds intriguing! So if you want to figure out how to incorporate them into your family's routine, here are some good ways to start.

Top 5 Oils

  1. Lavender
Lavender Population is known for being calming by reducing anxiety and acting as a stress reliever. It can also help with minor burns and reducing scarring and other skin issues including eczema and psoriasis.
    -
  2. Lemon
Lemon can be refreshing, energizing, and uplifting. It can also be added to your favorite household cleaner to help refresh and sanitize.
    -
  3. Peppermint
Peppermint is stimulating and can help enhance alertness and improve your energy. It can also relieve headaches, nausea, digestive problems, and congestion. Because of its menthol content, peppermint has a cooling effect which can also help reduce a fever and relieve pain.
    -
  4. Tea Tree
Tea Tree is often known for its ability to help combat acne and oily skin. You can also add a few drops to laundry to help keep things fresh.
    -
  5. Frankincense
Frankincense frereana is especially prized for its skin rejuvenating properties. It's great for wrinkles, scars, dry skin and damaged skin, and can help heal a wound or cut. It can also calm and relax your body and uplift your mood.

What an amazing giveaway! I have been wanting to learn about and try essential oils but as others have stated they are expensive to start out. My daughter has respiratory issues that I believe oils could help. Not to mention, I have trouble sleeping regardless that my toddler twins run me exhausted. It would be a blessing to sleep throughout the night without having to take a sleeping pill first.

I have been interested in use of essential oils for a long time. I am interested in using them as I have a family that is feeling the effects of nature during our late blooming spring season. I am a natural hair enthusiast and would love to move to more natural products for the rest of my body. Especially, with a very new pregnancy I'd like to keep my ingestion of unnatural chemicals to a minimum.

I use therapeutic grade oils regularly. These oils fit right along with the concept of clean eating and the lifestyle I am attempting to lead. I am an educator and even use these oils in a school setting. The use of the oils have helped me eliminate prescription medications.

I could have used this today! My youngest son has an earache and fortunately I had tea tree and eucalyptus to work into a natural remedy I found online, but I could have also used some lavender. Thank you for this offer. I love learning about natural home remedies!

I could use either/both of these kits! Our family struggles to stay asleep (my 7yo in particular). We take melatonin at bed time most nights and it definitely helps settle us in. However, 3-4AM is a busy window and we often have a child in be with us at that time.

As a mom, it's hard for me to sleep if my kiddos dont sleep and I've definitely lost my ability to focus/concentrate during the day.

Either set of oils would be a great test for us before we fully jump in.

Having a 4 year old who struggles to sleep I'd love to try the calming oils. Also, natural bug repellant would be amazing since I have 3 young kids, one being a newborn I hate exposing them to chemicals.

I would love to try essential oils on my family, and have been researching them for awhile now. I am reluctant to take or give my kids so many prescription drugs, and I love using natural products. This would be the best thing to win!!!

I have been using essential oils for a year and a half and I use them every day, however I have tried only brands from some of the major MLM companies and they are EXPENSIVE! I would love to try Plant Therapy oils because the prices are so much lower! I guess without all the commissions they are much cheaper!

I have gone through a mid-quality, small set of oils over the past year and have seen so much difference in both my littles, especially my son, who has a congenital brain injury that, along with many other things, causes him to not process "junk" out of his system like he should. Whether it is food or meds, his body is ultra sensitive to anything that is not completely natural. Medicines even like Tylenol, that are thought of so often as harmless, can result in his having night sweats and other skin and digestive issues. Essential oils are such a good way to treat all of us, but especially my Braxton. I can't afford a huge selection of oils, so have stuck only with a few basics, but have seen them work, and would love the opportunity to branch out in my oil repertoire. ;)

I'm trying to gradually eliminate chemicals and toxins from my family's daily life. My husband is reluctant, but I'm slowly winning him over. Our 4 year old daughter is IN LOVE with lemongrass essential oil (as well as any citrus or flowery smelling one) so she's already on board. Thanks for the chance to win!

Life seems overwhelming lately and my moods and my kids' moods seem to be changing by the hour. Something natural like the essential oils sound like a great thing to try to help improve all of our moods. I think I will be looking for some lavender oil based on this article.

I frequently get cold sores and I've tried all kinds of remedies that beaver seem to work. I think these oils may be the trick to lessen the pain and itching associated with the cold sores. I think they will also be good for my boyfriend who has lots of aches since he almost lost his foot in a chainsaw accident a year ago. I would use the oils to alleviate his pains as well as to help him with occasional sleeplessness.
