Choose all natural creamy peanut butter for the best flavor and texture. If you are nut-free, use sunflower butter.

Pure maple syrup adds natural sweetness. If needed, use honey or date syrup.

Almond flour adds a slightly nutty flavor. We have not tried this recipe using another flour, but whole wheat may work.

Expert Tips for Success

Follow these tips and tricks to make the best homemade Nutter Butters.

First, choose peanut butter made from only peanuts and salt.

Use almond flour. It allows the cookies to remain soft.

Make the cookie dough balls small. They tend to hold together better once baked.

Allow these gluten-free Nutter Butters to fully cool before adding the filling.

Flavor Variations & Add-Ins

While the classic peanut butter flavor is irresistible, feel free to get creative with your homemade Nutter Butters:

Chocolate-Dipped: Dip half of each sandwich cookie in melted chocolate for a decadent twist.

Almond Joy: Use almond butter in place of peanut butter and add shredded coconut to the filling for a tropical flair.

Spice It Up: Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the cookie dough for a warm, spiced version.

How to Serve & Store

Enjoy your homemade Nutter Butters with a glass of milk, your favorite coffee, or simply savor them on their own.

They store well in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.

  • 5 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup almond flour

Filling

  • ⅓ cup all-natural creamy peanut butter

Instructions

  • First, preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the peanut butter, maple syrup, and almond flour. Stir to combine.
  • Roll the dough into ½ inch sized balls. Place 2 balls next to each other on the prepared pan. Continue for the remaining cookie dough.
  • Gently press down on each dough ball with a fork, creating a criss-cross pattern.
  • Then, bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until just set around the edges.
  • Remove the pan from the oven.

Notes

  • Use all natural creamy peanut butter made from only peanuts and salt.  Do not use a brand with added oils or sugar.

  • Cool the cookies completely before adding the peanut butter filling.
  • Store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
