Ingredients & Substitutions

These are the ingredients and substitutes for these garlic butter steak bites. Scroll down to the recipe card below for the entire recipe.

First, choose sirloin steak or another lean steak. Filet mignon works well too. Cut the steak into equal sized, bite sized pieces.

A little olive oil helps sear the steak. Feel free to use avocado oil.

We love using grass fed butter or ghee! Regular butter works well too.

Minced garlic adds a delicious garlicky taste. This adds more taste than garlic powder.

Finely chop a shallot. Although this recipe can be made without it, chopped shallot adds so much flavor.

Lastly, season with sea salt and pepper.

Expert Tips for Success

Follow these tips and tricks to make the best garlic butter steak bites.

  • Don’t overcrowd the pan – work in batches if needed to get a proper sear.
  • Let the steak rest before cutting to retain juices.
  • Use a hot skillet to develop that delicious crust.
  • Fresh garlic is best, but garlic paste can work in a pinch.
  • Don’t overcook! These bites cook quickly and can become tough if left on too long. They only need a few minutes in total.

Flavor Variations & Add-Ins

Want to customize your Garlic Butter Steak Bites? Try these delicious variations:

  • Spicy Kick: Add red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce.
  • Herby Twist: Stir in chopped fresh parsley, rosemary, or thyme at the end.
  • Cajun Style: Swap salt and pepper for Cajun seasoning for a smoky, spicy flavor.
  • Mushroom Magic: Add sliced mushrooms during the garlic and shallot step.
  • Lemon Zest: Finish with a squeeze of lemon for brightness.
Seared buttery meat.

How to Serve & Store

These steak bites are incredibly versatile. Here are some of our favorite pairings:

  • Over mashed potatoes, cauliflower mash, or buttered noodles
  • With a side of roasted veggies or a crisp green salad
  • Stuffed in a warm whole wheat pita or served in lettuce wraps
  • Over brown rice or quinoa for a quick bowl meal

Store: Let cool completely and store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Reheat: Warm gently in a skillet over medium-low heat or microwave in 30-second bursts to avoid overcooking.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What if I don’t have shallots?

No problem — you can skip them or substitute with a small amount of finely chopped onion or green onions.

Can I make this recipe dairy-free?

Yes, simply replace the butter with a plant-based alternative. Just keep an eye on the heat so it doesn’t burn.

Can I freeze Garlic Butter Steak Bites?

Freezing isn’t recommended as it can affect the texture, but leftovers can be stored in the fridge and enjoyed within a few days.

How do I keep the steak juicy?

Avoid overcooking and be sure not to overcrowd the pan. Let the meat rest for 5 minutes after cooking to retain juices.
